Civil War Era Starr Single Action 44 Percussion Revolver 7th Michigan
Description: DESCRIPTION: Starr Arms single action percussion revolver with standard 8" round barrel, 6-shot cylinder, walnut grips, blued and case hardened finish. The two Starr variations were the 3rd-most used Civil War revolver after the Colt and the Remington. This revolver has the matching serial number 27646, which falls into a range of numerous Starr revolvers that were issue to the 7th Michigan Cavalry. The 7th was one of the 4 regiments in George Armstrong Custer's Wolverine Brigade. This revolver would have been made and procured/issued about June 1864, in time to be used in such battles as Fort Stevens and along Northern Defences of Washington July 11-12 (Detachment). The single action Starr was a sturdy gun and much more reliable than its double action predecessor and thus more desirable to the collector, reenactor and shooter alike. CONDITION: Most of the blue has faded to a mix of patina and gray with some traces of strong blue in the protected areas behind the receiver shield and the forward portion of the frame under the breech. Original loading lever retains traces of case colors. Original walnut grips are sound with no splits or cracks, never sanded or refinished, and bear the inspector cartouches although faint and worn. Numerous sub-inspector initials appear on the cylinder, barrel, receiver and trigger guard. Action is tight and crisp with solid lock up / no wobble and perfect timing. All 6 original nipples are intact and undamaged. Bore is excellent with extremely sharp rifling and super bright, a 9 of 10. All in all a good example of a desirable Civil War revolver that would grade NRA Antique Very Good and will make a fine addition to your collection. TERMS: No international sales.
