Civil War Remington New Model Army Revolver
Description: Serial #46958, .44 Caliber, 8" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has some minor freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome revolver that retains 50-60% of the original bright blue finish with the balance flaked to a smooth, plum-brown patina that has scattered spots of mild freckling, as well as some small peen marks on the frame around and on the head of the cylinder pin. Surface scratches are present on the left side of the frame below the recoil shield, some further surface freckling is present on the cylinder and barrel, with traces of muted original color case-hardening still present on the hammer. The walnut grips are in good-very good shape with numerous handling marks present in the thick, added oil finish. The cartouche is still visible on the left panel, with . The lock-up is solid, and the action functions flawlessly. This revolver does not look like it was ever issued, or if it was, not to someone who carried very much in the field, and most of the finish loss is due to poor storage. This is a great, high condition example of a desirable Civil War revolver, and rates fine-near excellent overall. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
