EARLY Smith & Wesson No. 2 “OLD ARMY” Revolver
Description: EARLY Smith & Wesson No. 2 “OLD ARMY” Revolver Made During the Civil War Circa 1861 Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson Model No. 2 Old Army Revolver, made circa 1861 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Smith & Wesson purchased the rights to the Rollin White patent for the bored through cylinder, which would forever change the development of revolving firearms. Beginning in 1857 they produced the Number 1, a 7-shot .22 rimfire pocket pistol, which was quite successful. This was fine for the commercial market, but S&W knew they could scale up their design for a pistol that could be worn on the belt in a holster. They began shipping their Number 2 “Army” Revolver, a 6-shot .32 caliber, just 2 months after the beginning of the American Civil War. Smith & Wesson continued to leverage their patent well beyond the war and they remained very popular with the public and on the frontiers. This S&W Old Army Revolver is a very early example, number “1353”. It features the short-lived, 2-pin design in the top strap. The top of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS”. This handily fits into the serial range of those No. 2s purchased early in the Civil War by the state of Kentucky for their state militia through Kittridge. The overall condition is very good. Traces of the original blue finish remain with a gray-brown patina pervading. The hammer spur has been reformed, early examples of this model were quite delicate. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The grips are in good shape. The bore is in good condition and well-rifled. The action on this revolver is excellent. Here is a very nice example of an early S&W revolver purchased for a sidearm during the American Civil War! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .32 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
