High Condition Starr Arms Co. Double Action 44 cal Percussion Revolver, Civil War Era
Description: DESCRIPTION: Starr Arms Co. double action 44 caliber percussion revolver, serial # 8237 matches in all correct locations, with correct dovetailed front sight in the 6" round barrel, made approximately 1861. One of a handful that I am listing that I just acquired from a local estate - previous owner purchased this revolver in 1968 so it has been tucked away for 51 years!! MARKINGS: Left side of frame "STARR.ARMS.CO.NEW.YORK." Right side of frame "STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856." "W" sub-inspector marking appears in 2 locations on left side of frame, on cylinder, on left side of barrel at breech, and on bottom of trigger guard in front of trigger loop. "H" sub-inspector mark on cylinder and right side of barrel at breech. "7" appears just under serial number on front of frame. "BH" inspector markings on both grips are extremely sharp and clear (Benjamin Hannis, who also inspected issued military firearms for Colt and Remington). Many of these Starr revolvers went to Company K of the 19th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War. CONDITION: Frame retains 60% original bright blue with the remainder flaking and a few spots of oxidation. Barrel retains 70% original bright blue, especially back by the frame and under the ram rod, with the balanced flaked and turned patina. Ram rod has turned patina with 10% original muted case colors on the lug portion. Cylinder retains 65% original bright blue with the balance a mix of plum and patina. All nipples are intact and undamaged. Bore is excellent, strong rifling and virtually no black powder damage, a 9 of 10, unheard of on a black powder firearm of this vintage. Trigger guard and backstrap have turned a dark patina. Original walnut grips have a couple of scratches and multiple dents on the butt, otherwise in excellent condition with no splits, no cracks, no repairs, never sanded or refinished and still tight to the frame. Grades NRA Antique Fine. TERMS: No international sales. Antique so it can ship directly to you assuming your local laws allow it. Copy of driver's license required as proof of age. Payment by bank check, money order, personal check, or all major credit cards with 3% surcharge. 3 day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Thanks for looking.
