Manhattan Navy Series III Revolver, made circa 1863 in Newark, New Jersey.
Description: The five distinct cylinder scenes on this example are very good. Two of the scenes are of a cavalryman charging into a group of soldiers. Two scenes are of what appears to be civilian men fighting against soldiers with bayonets fixed on their rifles. The last scene is of men rowing a small boat toward a steamer ship. The overall condition is fine. The metal surfaces bear 30% of the original blue finish. The case colors are still faintly visible. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The walnut grip is fine. The bore is excellent, sharp and shiny. The action is excellent and strong. Here is a scarce & fine example of a Series III Manhattan Navy! The Series III guns experimented with a spring plate between the cylinder and the face of the recoil shield to prevent chain fires between the cylinder chambers, but the feature was only included in a few of the guns in Series III. In the Series IV the Spring Plate was a permanent feature. Barrel is 6-1/2 inches. The action/mechanics are crisp and fully functional with no timing issues.
