PERIOD 44 HENRY Conversion REMINGTON Army Revolver With Hand-Tooled Holster & Cartridge Belt!
Description: PERIOD 44 HENRY Conversion REMINGTON Army Revolver With Hand-Tooled Holster & Cartridge Belt! Here we present an antique Remington New Model Army Revolver Converted to .44 Henry Rimfire, originally made circa 1863 in Ilion, New York. The New Model 1863 Army represents Remington’s highest production martial pistol. It was manufactured from 1863 to 1875 and represents the second-most issued handgun found on Civil War battlefields, second only to the Colt 1860 Army. It featured a strong, solid-frame design with the groove in the top for a rear sight, as opposed to Colt’s open-top design. Though Colt got the lion’s share of the government contracts, many consider the Remington New Model Army the superior firearm. William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody used an ivory-handled New Model Army .44, serial number 73,293, from 1863 until 1906, when he gave it to his ranch foreman with a handwritten note which said that, "It never failed me”. This one was updated to fire the new .44 Henry Rimfire cartridges that were gaining in popularity in the mid-to-late 1860s with the Henry rifle and then the Winchester Model 1866 Yellowboy. This was accomplished by removing the rear of the cylinder and attaching an extension in its place. The hammer was also modified to a rimfire blade, a piece of the recoil shield milled out on the right side for loading, and a recoil shield extension fastened on the left. This one still displays the original inspector markings throughout to include the cartouche with initials on the left side of the grip: “BH” for Benjamin Hannis. This revolver includes a wonderfully preserved civilian style leather flap field holster and cartridge belt. The overall condition is very good. Strong traces of original blue finish remain with the balance turning plum with age. The markings are clear. The numbers match. There are the serial numbers, of course, but also the recurring number “43” on both the left side of the frame as well as under the right grip. There is also an “S” and a number stamped on the bottom of the grip panels as seen in the photos. One of these is likely the conversion number. The grips are in good shape. The bore is obstructed partially but the intrusion of a replacement catch for the loading lever. Otherwise, the bore is in good shape. The action is hesitant and requires some manual movement of the cylinder. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8 inches. Caliber: .44 Henry Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
