Rare CIVIL WAR Era Antique U.S. Contract ROGERS & SPENCER Army Revolver
SCARCE 1 of 5,000 1863-65 Army Contract Revolvers
Description: Rare CIVIL WAR Era Antique U.S. Contract ROGERS & SPENCER Army Revolver SCARCE 1 of 5,000 1863-65 Army Contract Revolvers Here we present an antique Rogers & Spencer U.S. Contract Army Revolver in .44 Caliber, made circa 1863-65 near Utica, New York in Willow Dale. This revolver was based on the Freeman design and featured a solid frame like the Whitneys and the Remingtons. This was a high quality firearm that would have excelled on the battlefield. Its capacity was 6 shots of .44 caliber cap & ball out of a 7-1/2 octagonal barrel. This is likely one of the approximately 5000 contract revolvers made for the U.S. Army in 1865, but never issued. They were eventually sold by the Army to a distributor, and another 800 revolvers were made for civilian use. Prior to making these revolvers, Rogers & Spencer had made Pettengill percussion revolvers in Pocket, Navy and Army sizes. This revolver bears multiple single letter government inspector marks throughout. Numbers match. The action does not function as the hammer will not cock (weak trigger return spring, the main spring is a replacement). The bore is in good shape for the age—patinaed with good rifling. The grips are heavily refinished. Replacement loading lever keeper mounted under the barrel and front sight. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7-1/2 inches. Caliber: .44 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2650 #217138 SOLD Antique: Yes |
