RARE Colt 1860 Army "Crispin Revolver Carbine" 11th New York Cavalry 1 of 1000
Description: Colt 1860 Army 44 caliber percussion revolver, 6-shot, serial number 16552, made in 1861. This is one of the 1000 that were ordered directly by Ordnance office Silas Crispin and sent to the 11th New York Cavalry equipped with shoulder stocks. What makes them exceedingly rare is that the typical US inspection process never took place, thus this specimen is properly void of all sub-inspector markings and grip cartouches. Instead, it is characterized by the number "0" by the serial numbers on the grip, trigger guard, frame and barrel. These revolvers are highlighted in Charles Pate's book about the 1860 Army, on page 318. This shipment is the only shipment of 1860 Army Colts directly to the government that did not go through the inspection process, making them rarer than the early fluted cylinder variation, of which about 5,000 were made! Full documentation is pictured and included (Crispin's military bio, copy of the Pate book info, and 11th NY Regimental history). CONDITION: All numbers match except for the wedge, which is 17553, another Crispin Colt. The blued and case hardened finish now is a mix of gray and stained patina. The action is still tight and indexes properly to each cylinder each time. Original walnut grips are in very good condition, showing light wear and scratches but no major losses and light marks. Barrel-to-frame junction is tight with no wobble. Brass trigger guard is a mellow, pleasing mustard color, never having been cleaned. Original brass front sight intact. Cylinder has all 6 original nipples and retains about 20% of the original scene. Overall grades NRA Good. Considering the survival rate of 5 to 10% of firearms from this era, potentially not more than 100 of these revolvers remain. A must have for the Colt and Civil War collector, I doubt this one will be sale for very long! TERMS: FREE SHIPPING! No international sales and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii. Antique so it can ship directly to you assuming your local laws allow it. Please know your local laws and abide by them - if your state requires shipping to an FFL only, please let me know, as I can't know every individual state's laws. Sold as a collector's item only. If you intend to shoot this firearm, have it checked first by a competent gunsmith and then use the proper loads! Price listed is discounted for payment by check or money order.
