SCARCE Bacon Mfg. Serial #8 Early Third Model Percussion Revolver 31 Cal.
Description: ****** SOLD STEVE IN FL ****** James Bacon left the Manhattan Firearms Company to start his own firearms business, and made 3 versions of percussion revolvers. This is a very early Third Model - 5" round barrel, non-engraved frame, roll-engraved cylinder scene, Whitney-type loading lever with ball-type latch, 5-shot cylinder, caliber .31 percussion like the Colt 1849 Pocket Model. Best thing is the serial number - single digit - #8! Number matches on back of cylinder, bottom of barrel, wedge, loading lever and left side of frame under grip. Original finish was blued with wooden grips. Several other manufacturers made these, but this one has the Bacon barrel address, making it only 1 of 1400 in all types to be made at the Bacon factory. All blued finishes have turned patina with stronger color in the protected areas under the recoil shield and barrel/loading lever junction. Cylinder retains 75% scene and all 5 nipples are original with no damage. Action is a little sticky but does function and fire. Grips show expected nicks and toe wear but are solid with no splits or cracks. Barrel-to-frame junction is tight with no wobble. Decent bore with expected wear and black powder fouling but no major issues. Overall grades NRA Antique Very Good and will make a nice addition to your Civil War firearm collection. TERMS: FREE SHIPPING FREE SHIPPING FREE SHIPPING! No international sales and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii. Antique so it can ship directly to you.
