SCARCE Factory Engraved CIVIL WAR Antique BACON MFG. .22 RF POCKET Revolver PATENT INFRINGEMENT Handgun w/SWING OUT CYLINDER

Description:
SCARCE Factory Engraved CIVIL WAR Antique BACON MFG. .22 RF POCKET Revolver

PATENT INFRINGEMENT Handgun w/SWING OUT CYLINDER

Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Bacon Manufacturing Company Spur Trigger Pocket Model Revolver, made circa the early 1860s in Norwich, Connecticut. This is a scarce solid frame spur trigger revolver that features six shots of .22 rimfire. The .22 caliber models are a premium due to their scarcity. There is an ejector rod under the barrel, and the cylinder swings out to the right for loading and unloading. This example is marked “BACON MF’G CO. NORWICH. CONN” in a single line on the top of the barrel. Due to issues for Bacon regarding the Rollin-White patent, some of these are marked “Western Arms” or “Union Arms”, though some of his revolvers are left totally unmarked.

Thomas K. Bacon was the founder of the company and was also involved with the Manhattan Fire Arms Co. as the superintendent. He also had business dealings with Ethan Allen and Allen & Thurber. When Manhattan moved their operation away from Norwich, Bacon left the company to stay behind and work on his own firearms manufacturing company. Part of Bacon’s contract with Manhattan included a “no-compete” clause that he would have been in violation of if the heads of Manhattan had bothered to sign the agreement. Nevertheless, they still took him to court with no official judgement recorded. Bacon’s arms were popular on the commercial market and many made their way onto Civil War battlefields upon being privately purchased by soldiers. Here is a Thomas Bacon revolver to add to your Civil War collection!

The overall condition is good. Original bright gray patina. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age and retains serviceable rifling. Lightly engraved frame.
