SOUTH CAROLINA HARTFORD COLT NAVY REVOLVER
Description: Confederate Colt model 1851 Hartford Navy revolver shipped to South Carolina January 3, 1861 as confirmed by the accompanying letter from the Colt factory. This revolver is serial #98828 matching, wedge is a different #. We also know from Colt records that serial #98433 was one of 50 Colt Navy's shipped to the firm Gravely & Pringle, Charleston, SC to equip the cavalry unit "Palmetto Hussars". This revolver has definitely seen CS use, the metal overall is dark grey with a mix of age brown patina. Barrel has some areas of light age surface patches. One-line Colt's Hartford barrel address. Good flats and bore, front sight somewhat worn. Original loading lever has a little wiggle. Cylinder scene is mostly worn, although the serial # bar is quite distinct. Cylinder also has some light surface pitting, mostly from firing, also a slight wiggle. Colt's Patent frame marking is there, just worn. Brass is age-mellow, a good amount of original silver still remains mostly on the triggerguard itself. Grips are good, age handling wear, the left grip has two older surface gouges worn smooth from handling. Mechanics are very good. These Southern shipped early Hartford Colt Navy's are hard to encounter.. SOLD Antique: Yes |
