Very fine antique Colt 1849 Pocket model 6” barrel with original flap holster.. Very fine and above average Colt 1849 Pocket. S/N 300972 and was made in early 1868.. S/N are all matching including the wedge and the arbor pin. No number on the rammer which is correct in this S/N range This gun has some nice original finish. I took most of the photos in direct sun light so you can see the honest depth and coverage of the blue on the barrel.. The barrel in hand and in the shade looks much deeper than it really is and I want to be honest on the amount of finish it has. The barrel has about 75% bright but thinning blue as you can see in the photos. The balance is a smooth medium brown patina. The cylinder has generous traces of thinning blue, about 10% or so.. The balance has the same medium brown patina. The cylinder also has a great and very detailed cylinder scene. I would say about 85% or more.. The frame has some traces of case colors in the protected areas on the right side. Some case color patterning on the rear of the hammer. The rammer has some fading case colors on both flats and some bright, vivid case colors on the bottom were protected. There is no pitting or bad spots on the gun.. The mechanics are excellent. Crisp and tight as a new gun. Very little cylinder end shake and no side to side wobble on the arbor pin fit. Hammer notches are all correct and positive. Rock solid barrel to frame fit. The barrel still fits tight to the frame that you have to use the rammer to push of of the face of the cylinder to remove the barrel.. It does not just fall off like the well used and worn out guns. This is a very tight and solid gun. The bore is excellent and is bright and shiny with just a couple very small specks of roughness.. The cylinder chambers are all excellent as well. The markings are all excellent. The grips show about 90% original varnish with a ding and a little bottom flare wear on the right side. Also a very small 1/16” chip on the front right toe. Small 1/8“ chip on the left side front toe. The normal dinging on the bottom. Still very fine grips and a perfect factory fit. The screw heads are all pretty good and not burred up. Nice fire blue on the ones on the back strap where protected.. The holster is in very good to excellent condition.. It is form fit for a Colt 1849 Pocket with a 6” barrel only. It shows in very detail of the impressions made by the trigger guard, cylinder, barrel wedge, rammer lug and the end of the rammer. So nice to get a exact matching set like this. It shows some honest crazing and a small line split on the rear towards the toe {see photo}. The stitching is original and all tight and solid. Still has the sewn in muzzle plug. The flap is solid with no tears. The brass final stud is intact and tight. Solid belt loop on the back with an old leather string through a what looks like a heavy cardboard tube?? I have a very large collection of antique gun leather and it is not often that you find a nice original matching set like this in such great condition..
