Antique Colt 1862 Police Percussion Revolver w/ Sought After 6 1/2" Barrel. Excellent Mechanics. Some Blue Remaining. Nice Bore.
Description: SOLD !!! Antique 1862 Colt Police Model with the very sought after 6 1/2” barrel. This is a bit above average Colt 1862 Police.. Only a relatively small number of these were produced and most were later converted to cartridge so the ones still remaining in percussion are attractive to the Colt percussion collectors. Of course has the fluted cylinder and is .36 caliber percussion. S/N is 37013 MFG in 1868 and is all matching including the partial number on the arbor pin and the rear of the cylinder. No number on the original factory wedge which is correct for this model if I remember correctly.. It is the correct factory wedge either way so does not detract. Has the most sought after 6 1/2” barrel. This nice little Colt still retains some blue finish in the protected areas. The barrel has traces of blue around the wedge and in the fluted part of the barrel. Lots of blue on the bottom of the barrel were protected by the rammer. Quite a bit of blue also remains in all of the cylinder flutes and traces behind the rebated section. The rammer has some vivid case colors on the side flats and on the stem part were protected by the barrel. Some minor traces of case colors and faded pattern can be seen on the sides of the frame and the hammer in good light. The balance of the metal is a smooth and never messed with medium brown color. This gun has never been cleaned on or messed with in any way.. Excellent and full brass pin front sight that has not been worn down from holster wear.. Portions of all 5 cylinder safety pins remain and all 5 nipples are full and intact and not smashed down or rusted thin or deformed.. The barrel address is a bit weak at the end as you can see probably from a light stamping or holster wear but it is all readable. I have enhanced it with white chalk to show it.. All of the S/N's and the COLT'S PATENT on the frame are sharp and crisp showing no wear. The grips are excellent.. NO cracks of chips and a perfect factory fit. They show some honest and light compression marks but still retain about 55% original varnish on the left and about 90% on the right.. Just a wonderful set of grips that show hardly any wear and never used as a hammer as so many of these guns have been. The mechanics are excellent as well.. A very tight and crisp gun with hardly any cylinder movement at lock up.. Indexes perfectly and the hammer notches are correct and positive. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the wedge with NO movement or slop. The barrel is still very tight to the frame even when the wedge is removed. The screw heads are all excellent as well with sharp slots that show no abuse from turning or tinkering with.. The bore is very good to near excellent.. The rifling is as strong as when new and showing very little minor roughness. No big pits or craters and no rings or bulges. Well above the average Colt percussion bore.. The cylinder chambers show a little minor roughness but nothing bad at all.. No way near all ate up and pitted out. This ole 1862 model Colt is much better than the loose and rattly dirt browns guns that you will normally find on the market. Probably not as cheap in price as those but would be money well spent in the long run for investment or re sell value with some finish remaining, very fine grips and mechanics. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $30 insured USPS shipping.. SOLD Antique: Yes |
