Colt 1860 Army Cavalry Revolver Made 1862 Ainsworth Inspected
Description: Colt Model 1860 Army Cavalry Revolver, caliber 44 percussion, 6-shot rebated cylinder, 8" round barrel, brass front sight and trigger guard, blued steel back strap, case-hardened frame and loading lever, walnut grips, serial number 39904, made 1862, early 3-screw frame. Per Springfield Research Survey, revolvers in this serial range were issued to the 1st Maryland, 1st California, and 13th New York Cavalry units. CONDITION: Barrel, cylinder, frame and lever have turned a dark patina mixed with some plum. Brass trigger guard is a pleasant, uncleaned mild ochre. Action is crisp, half and full cock notches hold well, cylinder indexes perfectly every time. All serial numbers match right down to the wedge. All markings are clear, and the cylinder retains 50% sharp scene. Various sub inspector initials appear throughout the revolver, and there is a very clear "OWA" cartouche on the left grip indicating final acceptance by Ainsworth, who later on inspected many of the early Colt Single Action Army 45 caliber revolvers. Except for a sliver missing at the rear of the right grip, the wood remains in very good condition with very minimal wear, still tight and even to the straps and frame. Grades NRA Antique Very Good and has many possibilities for areas of operation during the Civil War. A true survivor that will be sure to increase in value over time. TERMS: No international sales and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii. Antique so it can ship directly to you, assuming your local laws allow it, so driver's license to show proof of 21 or older is required. Note New York State buyers must have the item shipped to an FFL holder. Payment by bank check, USPS money orders, personal check, or GunTab. 3-day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Please have a competent gunsmith check it over if you intend to shoot it. Ships by FedEx Ground with tracking. Thanks for looking and please see my other listings for more great firearms!
