Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with Fancy Grips
Description: Nice example of an early production Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with 100% all matching numbers and fancy walnut grips. Serial number is in the 103,000 range and was built in 1855. It has the earlier style small oval brass trigger guard and 2 Line New York Barrel Address. Caliber is .31 with a 5 shot cylinder and the nicely balanced 5" Barrel length. Overall Condition Grades to NRA Antique Very Good with the metal having turned to a mostly smooth grey/brown patina with a few tiny spots of extremely light corrosion on and around the cylinder area. The cylinder scene is over 90% there and it's a good sharp scene...not worn down or faded but there are a few tiny pits here and there. The brass trigger guard and backstrap have approximately 50% original silver plating intact. The grips have some fantastic tiger striping in the walnut which makes me wonder if Colt may have originally intended to engrave it but it's just standard. 90% original violin grade varnish is intact. One small chip at bottom of right front corner appears to have been glued back in place. The mechanics are nice. Bore is very good. There is a little bit of faded original blue along the bottom of the barrel next to the loading lever where it was protected. Screws are all there showing some wear but with good slots. Many of these 1849's saw use in the Civil War as they were used by both Union and Confederate soldiers as personal carry weapons. This is a great looking example of Colt's best selling revolver in the 19th century. You cannot go wrong with a Colt! Antique, Pre-1898 Percussion. Buyer must be 21 years old. No FFL required under Federal Law. We cannot ship this as an antique to NJ, NYC, DC, Chicago, or HI. Sorry, no international sales. $25.00 shipping in lower US 48.
