Extremely Rare Colt London Pocket Navy Revolver. .36 Caliber.
All Matching.. Excellent mechanics.
Description:
Antique and extremely rare Colt Pocket London Navy. The Colt Pocket Navy is a rare gun to find in the first place because they did not make very many, only about 19,000 and most of those were converted to cartridge in the 1870's, but the London Pocket Navies are almost impossible to find. This is only the second one I have ever offered for sale in 35 years. This one has the 5 1/2” barrel. It is in .36 caliber of course. Has the iron back strap and trigger guard. The S/N is in the range of most of the London Pocket Navies. It is 37268 with the “ L “ by the numbers and it is all matching even on the wedge and the arbor pin.. No number on the rammer as is correct. As you can see, this gun is covered with a very heavy dark brown patina that has been cleaned only a little on the barrel address and the S/N on the cylinder so they would show up a bit better.. There are patches of heavy surface crud throughout the gun.. No original finish at all. The gun came in in this condition and I have not touched it. The barrel address is weak or full of surface crud but I got the best picture of it as I could. It is absolutely a London barrel address and it has the British proof marks on the cylinder and the barrel. If the cylinder was cleaned {which I will not do} I would guess it would have about 50% or so cylinder scene.. Hard to tell. The mechanics are excellent, crisp and tight as a new gun. Hardly any front to rear cylinder movement and no side side wobble at the cylinder to arbor pin fit. Rock solid barrel to frame fit and the barrel still fits tight to the frame even with the wedge removed. This is still a very crisp and tight gun with no wobbles or looseness anywhere... The nipples are is very good condition and not mashed or broken. The bore it still mostly bright with very strong rifling. It does show some minor roughness but no big pits or anything bad.. Still much better than average for a Colt percussion bore. The cylinder chambers are also very good and not pitted. Both hammer notches are perfect and positive. The grips are very good but do show a very small chip on the right heel. Some normal and honest handling dings and scratches but no cracks.. A little age shrinkage on the right side next to the frame.?? Never sanded on or messed with. Still showing 80% original varnish. The screw heads are all very good to excellent and not burred up but it could use a new hammer screw as it has been tool marked as you can see. Front sight is still full and not worn down. As I mentioned, this is an extremely hard model of all the Colt percussion revolvers to find in any condition. I suppose with a little careful cleaning it would look better and show more cylinder scene but I will not touch it. I will leave that for the next owner to decide.. $35 insured shipping.
