Fine Pre-Civil War Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver Mfg 1860
Description: Serial #182068, .31 Caliber, 5 inch octagon barrel with a near excellent, bright bore with several isolated spots of roughness about mid-barrel. This is a Pre-Civil War, five shot, two line Hartford address Colt Pocket Model 1849 revolver manufactured in 1860. In fine condition the barrel retains about 50-55% of the original bright blue flaking to show a patchwork of bright finish and pewter-gray with crisp two line address marking on the top facet. The address shows the broken die for the "L" in Colt and appears as "COIT" which is correct for this serial number range according to Jordan & Watt in Colt's Pocket '49. The frame, hammer, and lever show beautiful slightly muted case-color. The cylinder which is correctly numbered to the gun features the Wagon Scene and retains about 30-35% original bright blue flaking to pewter-gray with crisp detail. The gripstraps have retained about 50-55% of their original silver finish with some flaking that exposes the yellow-ochre underlying metal with the name "Thorp" scratched on the bottom and it's common to find names here as many were given to soldiers going off to fight in the war. The grips are with light use marks and old surface level contusions. The action functions properly with tight lock up and smooth action. A fine example of a pre-Civil War Pocket '49.
