FINEST CASED SET OF 1861 COLT NAVY
Description:
Probably the finest in existence. Very elaborately engraved by L.D. Nimschke. Checkered Ivory grips. Guns are about 80 numbers apart which is how Colt did things. The guns have full silver with gold trim on the hammer and ram rod. Monogram on the backstrap is "MRT". The top of the case also has a brass plaque that says "MRT". These are a well known pair of guns that were formerly in the Johny Bassett collection and also Ron Deane collection. Both are well known Colt collectors. Guns are fitted in a deluxe case with a silver plated flask, two silver oil bottles, a 250 count Colt percussion cap tin, silver plated cleaning rods and silver plated bullet mold. Also a couple of silver plated percussion nipples and a couple of hammer springs as well as nipple wrenches. Guns retain about 50-60% orig silver as well as generous traces of gold gilt. We all know that silver plate is about as fragile as any finish and such is the case with these. The guns have the typical Nimschke style engraving. Must be seen to appreciate. Inside the case is in excellent condition. Just minimum wear. No tears of the lining. The box has just light wear with a few little dings. Fantastic pair of Colts!
