Description: Antique, first year production, original Colt Model 1862 Pocket Police with 4 1/2" barrel. This revolver is all original and all serial numbered parts match, including the wedge. Serial number 3160 was made in 1861. Barrel is marked with the New York address. Frame has a clear "COLTS PATENT" marking and the patent information clearly shows in one of the flutes. 36 caliber percussion, 5 shot cylinder with all original nipples in good condition, excellent walnut grips retaining most of the original varnish and having the typical loss along the bottom edges but never sanded, cleaned or refinished. Brass trigger guard and back strap have turned a pleasing mellow ochre, never having been cleaned. Action locks up tightly and times perfectly. Strong hammer spring. Bore is fair having worn rifling and areas of black powder roughness, especially at the breech. Cylinder shows pitting and dings. Dings present around wedge. Frame retains 10% original case colors. All in all it grades NRA Antique Very Good and is a nice representation of the model. Being a first year gun is an added bonus. Recently acquired from a large collection of a private Civil War enthusiast, who states the revolver was originally privately owned by a Confederate soldier but that was only a verbal history, and he had no written provenance.
