Scarce Colt Pocket Model of Navy Caliber Made 1861 First Year Production .36 Cal. Percussion Revolver
Description: Colt Pocket Model of Navy Caliber, .36 caliber percussion revolver, 5.5" octagon barrel, rebated 5-shot cylinder with Stagecoach holdup scene, walnut grips brass trigger guard and back strap, blued and case hardened finish, single action. Less than 20,000 of these were made 1861 to 1875 and most were used for the metallic cartridge conversions, so finding a first year production still in percussion form is quite rare. Serial number 1632 matches in all places it should - wedge, cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard, arbor pin and grip (loading levers were not marked with numbers). CONDITION: All brass surfaces are an uncleaned, smooth, even mild ochre, very pleasing to the eye. All blued and case hardened parts have turned to a plum-patina with traces of case colors on the hammer, loading rod and frame. Original walnut grips are sitll tight and retain most of the original varnish with light scuffing along the bottom edges and expected nicks/dings/scratches. The action is tight and crisp, the action likes up nicely at both half cock and full cock, the cylinder spins freely for loading at half cock and indexes right on each cylinder at full cock. The loading rod operates without binding and snaps into the catch tightly. The 5 cylinder nipples are original, with only 1 showing very minute damage. The barrel to frame mating point is also extremely tight, and I had a heck of a time getting the wedge out to check the number due to it fitting very tightly also. There are 7 old, worn kill hashes on the left grip as well as a small "X" which usually represents the Confederate flag, so it is possible this was a backup gun for a Confederate cavalry trooper, or infantry officer or NCO. Regardless, this is a highly-prized piece of Colt history that surely will fill a void in your collection. TERMS: Antique so it can ship directly to you at the address of your choice. 3-day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Payment by personal check, bank check, or USPS money order only, sorry no credit cards and no electronic payments. Have a competent gunsmith give it a clean bill of health before using as it has not been test-fired. Packed with great care to survive the trip. Ships by USPS Priority Mail with tracking.
