Here we present an antique Two Digit Serial Number (#46) British Proofed Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver, made circa 1853 in London, England. This one has the early and rare brass grip frame (only produced in the first 2,000) whereas the majority of production had iron grip frames. This one still has the same roll engraved cylinder scene of the Battle of Campeche naval battle.

The U.S. Hartford factory was firmly established, and sales were exceedingly good for Samuel Colt. So, Colt’s thoughts began to drift towards his possible share of the English & European firearms market, and in 1853 he established a factory in London which produced thousands of examples of this model for the British forces in the Crimean War but was not very productive for large military contract. As a result, the London factory closed in 1856.

The overall condition is good+. Dark patina. The action is excellent and crisp. The bore is dim with strong rifling. The grip is solid. Numbers match. A fantastic early London Colt Navy!
