Very fine antique Colt 1862 Police revolver.. Very fine and crisp Colt 1862 Police with 5 1/2” barrel and in original .36 caliber percussion. The mechanics are excellent.. Crisp and tight as a new gun. Rock solid barrel to frame fit is so tight you have to use the rammer to push off of the face of the cylinder to remove the barrel. This is an extremely crisp and solid gun.. All the markings are excellent. As you can see this gun has a lot of blue remaining on the barrel and cylinder. S/N 29788 and ALL matching including the cylinder stamped on the rear, the wedge and the arbor pin. Gun was made in early 1865. I have taken the photos in direct sunlight to show the depth of the blue.. With gun gun in hand an in a shaded area the blue looks somewhat deeper than the photos show but is still a very high condition Colt. The barrel has an honest 75% deep and bright blue. There is still blue on the inside of the bore at the muzzle you can clearly see with a flash light!! The right side of the barrel has an area as you can see that has been cleaned and shows some light roughness probably from poor storage at some point. It is smooth to the touch and not pitted.. Nothing into the metal at all.. No filing marks or anything harsh was used. Just a light cleaning to stop the corrosion. It was like this years ago when I got it and I have not touched it since. The bore is minty and mirror bright and shiny as you would expect. The cylinder has about 65% or more deep and bright blue.. All the bright deep blue down in the flutes remain and most of the blue remains in the rebated area at the rear.. Just has thinned out on the outer surfaces from holster wear and honest use. There is still blue inside the chambers. This gun could not have been fired very much with blue still inside the bore and cylinder chambers !!  4 out of the 5 safety pins on the rear of the cylinder remain in full 100% condition while the 5th shows some smashing.. All the original nipples are in excellent condition and show very little use if any. The frame has about 40% or so case colors on the left side. The right side of the frame just has faint traces and no bright colors. The case colors on the hammer have mostly faded but still show good case color pattern but nothing bright. The rammer has about 75% slightly fading but still fairly bright case colors. The grips are excellent and still show 98% factory piano varnish. NO cracks or chips and a perfect factory fit. They show some very minor handling dings and mars. The screw heads are all excellent and show no turning at all.. All the factory fire blue remains on the two protected back strap screws. The trigger guard shows just traces of the lightly applied silver.. No silver remains on the back strap. The trigger guard and back strap have never been polished or cleaned on.. The edges of the gun are all sharp and crisp as you would expect. Excellent brass pin front sight is still full with no wear. This is just a very fine example of the Colt 1862 Police revolver. Getting harder to find nice high condition Colt's of this model anymore that can be sold in this price range. If not for the poor storage on the right side of the barrel it would be price quite a bit higher but still a very fine example at a little cheaper price.
