Very Nice Antique Colt 1849 Pocket With 6" barrel. 75% Barrel Blue. 75% Cylinder Scene.. Tight As New Mechanics. MFG 1864.
Description: Antique Colt 1849 revolver. Very nice Colt 1849 revolver with the sought after 6” barrel. S/N is 268772 and made in 1864 right towards the end of the Civil War. All S/N are matching including the wedge and arbor pin.. No number on the rammer as is correct in this higher S/N range. This has the six shot cylinder and in .31 caliber of course. The mechanics are excellent. The cylinder locks up tight as new with hardly any side roll.. Rock solid barrel to frame fit. Barrel still fits tight to the frame as you have to use the rammer to push off the front of the cylinder to remove the barrel. It just does not fall off when you remove the wedge like they do when they are worn out from taking the gun apart so many times. The cylinder still has about.75% of the cylinder scene. This little gun has a lot of barrel blue remaining. I would say about 75% blue over all with all the blue showing on the bottom of the barrel and the next up bottom barrel flats. Shows lots of slightly thinner blue on both side and still some blue on the top of the barrel. The case colors on the frame have faded out to a light silver-gray color as has the hammer. The rammer shows some nice bright case colors on the bottom flat and traces of case colors on the side flats. No silver remains on the brass trigger guard or back strap. The grips do not fit properly so they have been sanded and refinished or are from a different gun. I would say they are from a different gun as they fit shy to the back strap and fit too full on the front grip strap. It is what it is and too bad because this is a very nice 49 Pocket. The bore is mostly bright with some scattered spots of roughness from honest use with black powder but nothing bad and no rings or bulges. All the markings are excellent. All the screw heads are clean and show very little turning. The two screws on the rear of the trigger guard still show the bright fire blue. Over all this is a very nice and tight Colt 1849 Pocket with lots of barrel blue for the money. Of course if it had the original grips would be price a bit higher but still at a very reasonable price. Maybe you have or could find a set of grips that fit better ?
