Description: c1873 mfr Early Metallic Cartridge COLT .38 RIMFIRE Pocket Revolver Antique Pocket Model of Navy Caliber Here we present a Colt Pocket Model of Navy Caliber Revolver, made circa 1873 in Hartford, Connecticut. These were some of Colt’s earliest cartridge firearms made in-house. The Rollin While patent, which Smith & Wesson owned the rights to, allowed the new metallic rimfire cartridges to be loaded from the back of a cylinder and expired in 1869. Colt and many others had to play catch-up. This revolver has 1871 and 1872 patent dates. Colt was thrifty and utilized new-old stock to put together revolvers that were adapted to use with the cutting-edge ammunition. You will observe that the trigger guard on this piece is marked “36 CAL”, a holdover from the Model 1862 Police or Pocket Navy. This one has a 5-Shot capacity of .38 Rimfire in a small package. The overall condition is good+. Original patina throughout. The action is strong and crisp. The bore is well-rifled with a dark patina. The walnut grip is in good shape, clearly used.
