RARE Antique COLT Model 1871-72 OPEN TOP Revolver
Description: RARE Antique COLT Model 1871-72 OPEN TOP Revolver 1 of only 7,000 Made Prior to the COLT SAA! Here we present an antique Colt Open Top .44 Revolver, manufactured circa 1872 in Hartford, Connecticut. Only about 7,000 were made! This was the predecessor of the legendary Colt Single Action Army Revolver, also known as the Model 1873 or the Peacemaker. Though Colt enjoyed the largest contracts of any handgun maker during the American Civil War, it had to rely on its array of percussion fired revolvers, namely the 1860 Army until the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent expired in 1869. This enabled them to begin making revolvers with completely bored through cylinder chambers in order to utilize modern metallic cartridge ammunition in the most effective manner. In 1869, Colt began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, then building cartridge guns like this one from the ground up. These were made in small numbers and were effective prototypes for the soon to be adopted Colt SAA in 1873, which would prove to have decades of staying power. This one is in .44 Rimfire, which would have made a fantastic companion to a Winchester Model 1866 rifle or carbine. It features an “army” sized grip. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina. The markings are clear and legible. The numbers match. The loading gate is a numbered replacement. The walnut grips are in good condition with lots of wear evident. The bore is in very good condition with nice rifling. The action on this revolver is excellent. Here is a nice example of a Colt Open Top just waiting to fill that tough spot in your collection! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7-1/2 inches. Caliber: .44 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $4850 #8209 SOLD Antique: Yes |
