A very good, tight example of this famous Civil War sidearm. This 1860 Colt was manufactured in 1861, and was one of the first to be purchased by the U.S. Ordnance Dept. Numbered in the 11,000 serial range, this is a 4 screw variation which was fitted for attachment of a shoulder stock. It is fully inspected, with the letter "H", for Benjamin Hennis, as is proper. The outline of the inspector's cartouche can still be seen on the left grip. All serial numbers are matching including the wedge. It is in perfect working condition. All parts are original to the date of manufacture, with the possible exception of the nipples, which may have been replaced sometime in the past. As is normally the case, all metal parts have been cleaned of black powder residue, leaving a dull, gunmetal grey finish.
