Nice 1923 COLT ARMY SPECIAL .38 Special Caliber Double Action C&R REVOLVER
Type Used by JAMES BOND in MOONRAKER w/PEARL GRIPS
Description: Nice 1923 COLT ARMY SPECIAL .38 Special Caliber Double Action C&R REVOLVER Type Used by JAMES BOND in MOONRAKER w/PEARL GRIPS Here we present a C&R Colt Army Special Double Action Revolver, made in 1923 by the Colt Manufacturing Company with a production run from 1908 through 1927 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt Army Special was a pistol designed by Colt to replace the various over-complicated models of Colt New Army and New Navy revolvers. It was in production from 1908 to 1927 in hopes of securing a military contract. The United States Army instead adopted the Colt M1909 New Service revolver in .45 Long Colt and later the Colt M1911 Self-Loading pistol in the .45 ACP cartridge after extensive trials. As the 20th Century began, the older .32 caliber revolvers which had been standard-issue for most of America’s police departments began to be phased out in favor of the larger-bore .38 and .41 calibers. In 1908 Colt introduced a sleek and modernized revolver they dubbed the Army Special, which in the powerful (for the time) and popular .38 Special quickly became the issue service revolver of many departments. The revolver was renamed "Colt's Official Police" in 1927 in order to better market to law enforcement agencies. It became one of the best-selling police firearms of all time, eventually in the 1950s coming to exemplify typical law enforcement officer weaponry. The Official Police was also used by various U.S. and allied military forces during World War II. Interestingly, in the 1979 movie “Moonraker”, James Bond stowed a Colt “Army Special” in a holster mounted in the glove compartment of his 1930 Bentley. How’s that for going in style! The overall condition is excellent. Original nickel. Strong action all the way around. The crane opens and closes smoothly. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Both pearl grips are in fine shape. Clear markings. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .38 Special Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #226789 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
