Colt Bisley Model Single Action Army Revolver in .38 W.C.F.

Manufactured in 1911, this Colt Bisley Model is an excellent example of Colt's response to the growing competition shooting market of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Named after the famed Bisley shooting ranges in England, the Bisley Model was a purpose-built variation of the Single Action Army, designed to meet the needs of target shooters and competitive marksmen.

According to David Brown's The 36 Calibers of the Colt Single Action Army, only 12,163 Bisley Models were produced in .38 W.C.F. (.38-40), making this configuration comparatively scarce among Single Action Army variants.

The revolver features Colt's two-line barrel address on the top of the barrel, with "(BISLEY MODEL)" and the caliber designation marked on the left side. The left side of the frame bears the two-line patent markings followed by the Rampant Colt logo. A "VP" proof mark and "W" inspector's mark appear on the left side of the trigger guard.

Matching serial numbers are present on the frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. Additionally, the last four digits of the serial number, "8718," are hand-scratched on the interior of both grip panels, confirming their originality to the revolver.

Features include the standard blade front sight, frame-top groove rear sight, and original checkered hard-rubber grips adorned with Rampant Colt medallions at the top.

Condition

Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish, 75% plus of the vibrant original case colors, and 80% of the bright nitre blue on the trigger, with some light handling/holster wear and cylinder turn lines. The grips are also very fine with only the slightest handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A very fine example of Colt’s Bisley Model!
