Colt 1909 Revolver, .45 Colt, 5.5" Barrel, 2.5 lbs.
Description: The Colt Model 1909 is a large-frame, double-action revolver chambered in .45 Colt. Adopted as a stopgap sidearm for the U.S. military, it was a specialized adaptation of the Colt New Service designed to provide the stopping power necessary during the Philippine-American War. Following complaints that the .38 Long Colt failed to stop Moro fighters in the Philippines, the U.S. Army adopted this .45 caliber revolver to replace the Model 1892. It served for only two years (1909–1911) before being officially replaced by the semi-automatic M1911 pistol. Built on an impressively sized all-steel frame with a fixed blade front sight and a notch rear sight machined into the frame. Features the "Colt Positive Lock" hammer block to prevent accidental discharge if the hammer is struck. This Military model is roll-stamped with "U.S. Army Model 1909" (or Navy/USMC) on the butt and include an oval-shaped lanyard ring. .45 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Chambers: Revolver Metal Condition: Good Condition Having Been Re-blued Wood Condition: Wood Grips in Very Good Condition Barrels: 5.5" Barrel Triggers: Factory Weight: 2.5 lbs Sights: Bladed Shark Fin Front Sight with Trenched Frame Rear Sight Item Location: Tulalip, WA |
