Description:
Standard configuration Colt Model 1878 Etched Panel Frontier Six Shooter revolver chambered in .44 C.F. with a 7.5" barrel having half moon blade front sight and groove rear sight. Single line Colt address on top of the barrel, “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER” on the left side of the barrel, “44C.F.” on the left trigger guard referencing the caliber, “28” on the back of the cylinder, “41” on fire blued loading gate and on the frame under the grips, and the full SN: 16028 on the butt. Disassembly shows unnumbered grips.
Condition:
VG bright original factory finish over most of the revolver, with fading and flaking as imaged, particularly over the cylinder, front strap, and the back strap. Trigger, hammer, and loading gate in comparable condition, retaining the majority of their original fire blue. Excellent hard rubber grips, with a few light impressions and blunted checkering, but no cracks or splits. Bright bore w/ very light etching. Correct manual mechanics, with each cylinder indexing correctly against mild cocking resistance. A scarce Colt 1878 Etched Panel Frontier Six Shooter revolver, with the desirable 7.5 inch barrel, and in the large .44 caliber, seldom offered for sale in this condition. ANTIQUE!
