Very Rare Colt Model 1878 Double-Action Revolver Chambered in .41 Colt with Factory Letter
Description: Serial #43018, .41 Colt, 4 3/4" barrel with a good bore that has mild pitting along its length. This is a 1900-made revolver that has matching numbers on the frame and cylinder, as well as matching assembly numbers on the frame and loading gate. The metal has an overall plum-brown patina with gray fading and silvering along the high edges and projections, as well as some hints of original bright blue along a few of the protected areas. There are deep tool and impact marks on the underside of the barrel where is meets the frame, but the small "41" caliber designation is still legible when the cylinder pin is removed. The checkered hard rubber grips are in very good-near fine shape with only mild flattening of the points on either panel. The lock-up is still tight and the actions functions in both single and double-action. The revolver is accompanied by a 2004-dated Colt factory letter that lists a shipping date of June 26, 1901, to Colt’s San Francisco Agency as part of a two gun shipment. The .41 Colt chambering is quite rare with only 308 examples produced. Of those, only 137 were made with a blued finish with a 4 3/4" barrel. This example is in very good condition, and would make a fine addition to any collection. FFL or C&R; SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
