Very Rare Colt Model 1878 Frontier Six Shooter (Sheriff’s Model) Revolver Shipped to J.P. Lower & Sons, Denver
Description: Serial #20199, .44-40 (.44 WCF), 4" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an 1887-made revolver that has an original etched panel 4" barrel without ejector and retains 92-95% of the original bright nickel finish that has tarnished slightly in a few spots, as well as some tiny spots of plum-brown freckling scattered about. The hammer and trigger retain much of their original bright fire blue finish, with the balance silvered. The period ivory grips are intact and have a mellow age-toned tea stain patina with no visible age cracks. The action locks up tightly and locks firmly at both half and full-cock. The revolver is accompanied by a 2006-dated Colt Factory Letter that lists a shipping date of September 1, 1888, to the noted firm of J.P. Lower & Sons, Denver, Colorado, as part of a two gun shipment. According to "Colt’s Double Action Revolver Model Of 1878" by Don Wilkerson {1998}, only a total of 289 Model 1878 revolvers were made in nickel with the 4" barrel without ejector. This example is in excellent overall condition and would make a splendid addition to any collection. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
