LETTERED American Express Colt 1877 “Lightning” RARE Documented “Am.Ex.Co.” Marked Revolver
Description: LETTERED American Express Colt 1877 “Lightning” RARE Documented “Am.Ex.Co.” Marked Revolver Here we present an American Express Company Marked Colt Model 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver, shipped to Am. Ex. Co.’s purchasing agent at Wm. Read & Sons in Boston, Massachusetts on June 15, 1904 per the Colt Archive Letter. It was in a lot of 50. Only 1,200 were purchased and marked “Am.Ex.Co.” at the Colt factory and these were all documented. The Lightning was chambered for 6 shots of .38 Colt and was Colt’s first double action revolver. The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT. D.A. 38”. The left side of the frame, above the trigger it is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871/PAT. SEPT. 15, 1874/Pat. Jan. 19, 1875”. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.”. The back strap is engraved with “Am. Exp. Co. 1107”. The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is about 85%. The nitre blue on the trigger is about 70%. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The original hard rubber grips feature the trademark rampant Colt. They are in good shape with the right grip having a stable crack. The bore is fine, shiny with sharp rifling. The action is excellent in both double and single action. Here is a rare example of a Colt Lightning marked for an express company that is still around today! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 4-1/2 inches. Caliber: .38 Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING.
