Description:
Colt 1851 Navy 3rd variantion with matching numbers. Scarce "large Iron-guard New York" marked navy, which was likely assembled from the unfinished parts that were returned from the closed London facilities, and ultimately used for domestic guns. These so called "black navies" we're also purchased by the US military prior to the Civil War, although this particular one does not have any military markings, the Springfiel Research serial number shows it to the 9th cavalry in Texas Buffalo soldiers. From the collection of Tom Burness
