Presentation Texas CS Bowie knife. Terry’s Texas Rangers. Co D.
Description: Presentation Terry’s Texas Rangers George B. Zimpleman Civil War Confederate Bowie Knife. CS engraved on blade and other side engraved with banners reading ”George B. Zimpleman, Co D”, second banner ”Terry’s Texas Rangers”. Measures 15.5”overall, blade 11-1/8” long. In 1861 he entered the Confederate service as a private in Colonel Terry’s Texas Rangers. He served in the eighth regiment Texas Cavalry of the Rangers. His engagements were Forrest’s capture of Murfreesboro the fighting under Wheeler in 1862, the battles of Shiloh, Perryville, Shelbyville, Chickamauga, Marietta, New Hope Church and Decatur. He was wounded six times in battle, three times during the Battle of Atlanta, and three times in other engagements. George served from 1861 to 1865. When the war came to an end he took up life back on the farm near Austin, Texas and in 1866 he was elected sheriff. He held office until 1876. He formed a posse referred to as Zimpelmen’s Guard, during what became known as the San Elizario Salt War. George was the previous owner of the now famous LBJ Ranch. SOLD Antique: Yes |
