EXC. NEW SERVICE IN RARE .44 RUSSIAN & SPEC., 7 ½” BARREL, MADE 1925
Description: HIGH CONDITION NEW SERVICE IN RARE .44 RUSSIAN & SPECIAL CALIBER WITH SCARCE 7 ½” BARREL, #322XXX, MADE 1925. By far, one of the most sought after and difficult chamberings in the big New Service is the .44 Special. After 1912 the .44 Russian, was combined with the .44 Special which is why the barrel is marked “NEW SERVICE RUSSIAN AND S&W SPECIAL .44” Overall, this fine revolver retains most of the deep 1920s Colt blue finish with normal very light thinning mainly on the left side of the barrel toward the muzzle, barely on the edges and some light thinning on the back strap. The hammer back and trigger retain deep fire blue. Excellent markings on the barrel top with the last patent date of 1905 as well as a sharp rampant colt on the left side of the frame. Lanyard swivel intact, tight action, bright bore and even the front face of the cylinder retains most of blue indicating that this revolver was fired very little. Only the left rear of the front sight shows some small indentations as if it had been slightly tilted using pliers- sounds worse than it is as you have to look carefully to even see it, but I wanted to mention it. Even the ejector rod retains almost all the factory blue. Excellent screws. Excellent original grips with matching number to the gun on the inside. A super difficult caliber to find especially paired with the long 7 ½” barrel and all in super condition inside and out. A great investment Colt.
