Colt Official Police Custom Single-Action-Only .38 Special Target Revolver
Description:
This Listing from an avid shooter's collection is a Used; Circa 1931 ; SN 569,5XX; Colt Official Police (continuation of the Army Special) .38 Special; Target Revolver with Custom Features. Lack of barrel markings, patent dates and other limitations make it difficult to tell if this is a 1931 O.P. (most likely) or a 1950 Officer’s Model (less likely because of the older style ejector rod tip, on the old style fine serrations on the grooved [not flat-top] topstrap). On this revolver, the Hammer has no Double-Action Fly Mechanism (Strut, Spring, and Pin) – making it Single Action Only. What appears to be the original 6-inch barrel has been professionally sleeved to eliminate the taper, add weight and increase the sight radius. The sleeved barrel O.D. is just over ¾ inch; the length is approximately 6-¼ inches – with a sight radius of approximately 7-½ inches from the front edge of the Micro-brand Windage and Elevation Click-Adjustable Rear Sight to the rear edge of the Tall Undercut Target Front Sight. Photos show the barrel recessed within the outer sleeve. The Hammer is deeply and sharply custom-checkered, and may be a Colt Officer’s Model Target or Officer’s Model Match Hammer – or a Custom job like the Trigger. The approximately ½ inch Wide Custom Trigger is also sharply checkered and slightly angled towards the right side for optimal operation when the trigger finger is positioned naturally. The Hammer and Trigger treatments are reminiscent of King’s (San Francisco) revolvers in this collection – but are unmarked. The barrel (sleeve) has superficial scratches, as does the front/outer edge of the cylinder. The Cylinder has a prominent line in the bluing that does not catch our fingernail. Blue is worn away under the Cylinder Latch and along the face of the latch where the star-wheel crosses on opening and closing. Chambers show light striations ahead of the case mouth. Otherwise, the chambers are bright and shiny and the bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling. This revolver appears polished and reblued during the custom work; the rampant Colt trademark is no longer visible on the left side of the frame. Not being dealers or experts, we estimate the condition at better than 80 Percent of the Refinished (emphasis on Refinished) bluing. Please ask any questions or request additional information before purchase as this item will be troublesome and costly to return owing to CA re-registration and other regulations. Any refunds will be minus our actual shipping cost and FFL fees (greater than $150) after buyer pays return shipping. The listed price Includes Insured Air Shipping from a CA FFL Dealer to yours. Payment is by Money Order, Bank (Certified) Check or Personal Check (held 2-3 days). We are the Estate Executor and Trustee, not a dealer, and cannot handle credit card or electronic payments. This item is subject to prior sale.
