SOLD ****** pending receipt of funds ********************* Colt Official Police Post-War .38 special double-action revolver in bright nickel finish. 4 inch barrel. Original checkered walnut grips have been removed. Gun comes with aftermarket Old Stag Horn grips with square butt. SN = 849691 Manufactured between 1947 and 1969. This gun was made in 1956. Fixed rear sight. Appears to have been refinished. Includes correct Colt box and styrofoam inserts (end label is missing from the box).
Released in 1908 as the "Colt Army Special". Renamed in 1927 "Colt Official Police" in order to better market to law enforcement agencies. In 1927 checkering was added to the trigger and the finish was changed to highly polished blue. Police departments in San Francisco, St Louis, Portland, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Kansas City, the FBI and the Army Military Police all carried this revolver for some period of time as their service pistol. One of the most successful handguns ever made.
