SUPERB CRAFTSMANSHIP FROM THE EARLY PART OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION IS APPARENT IN THIS 6" BARREL OFFICIAL POLICE .38 SPECIAL, #570XXX, MADE 1931. This was the bread-and-butter portion of the Colt line with contracts from police departments and other law enforcement agencies buying these by the truck load! Rugged and beautifully made, these hand-fitted and tuned Colts display some of the finest workmanship found on any double action revolvers. This example has seen very little use and retains nearly all the factory blue with only a touch of wear at the muzzle, a light cylinder line and maybe some very minor edge wear of you look very carefully. Even the grip straps show about all the deep original blue. The checkered walnut grips are numbered to the gun, but a previous owner filed a finger notch at the middle of the butt edge on both sides- the only thing I can figure about this is that he must have had very large hands and this was where he placed his little finger. These Colt grips are fairly common and easy to replace, or just leave these on as they are part of this 90 year old Colt's history. Checkered trigger retains the fire blue as does the hammer top and back. The action, and crisp trigger as on most 1930s vintage Colts and Smiths have to be felt to be appreciated. Still a bargain at $650.
