WW2 Colt Revolver Official Police (Naugatuck Chemical Co.)
Description:
Serial #714180, .38 Special, 5” barrel with an excellent, bright bore.
This is a 1944-made revolver that retains 90-92% of the original blue finish with some mild silvering at the muzzle, on the projecting edges, and a visible turn-ring on the cylinder.
There are some further minor marks and bright spots on the rounded front sight blade, and gray metal at the butt where a departmental issue number was partially ground away (but is still clearly legible: “DPC 2326”).
There is faint plum-brown freckling just starting to appear on the sides of the hammer spur, and some mild silvering along the edges of the blued trigger.
The checkered walnut grips are in very good condition with some flattening of the points as well as a few handling marks and blemishes on both sides of the butt.
The revolver is housed in a period leather, police style flap holster that is in fine condition; supple and with some scattered scuffs and light blemishes.
Correspondence with the Colt Historical Department relates that the revolver was shipped to Defense Supplies Corp. in Washington D.C. (no date given), who procured it for Naugatuck Chemical Co. in Naugatuck, CT (a strategically important wartime producer of synthetic rubber).
This is a wonderful, wartime industry-used revolver that would make a great addition to any collection.
