1979 6” Colt Python 95%
(Elliason sights)
Description:
Here's another Python that's temporarily escaped from the back corner of Rick's safe. This 6" model has a V-prefix serial number that dates it to 1979. Condition is very good (95%). This example also has the semi-rare factory-optioned undercut-Patridge front and adjustable rear sights from Elliason. Hey, stainless steel Pythons are fine I guess, but to picky old guys like Rick, one of the things that made the original Pythons so elite was their famous Royal Blue finish - and this one is a great example of that. However there is a very minor scratch on the left edge of the vent rib about 1" from the end (see highlight in photo). Also, be advised this gun has been fired - but only lightly - probably w 38specials. Really the only sign of this are the light powder rings on the front of the cylinder. Barely any cartridge mark inside the frame and no turn line on the cylinder. Grips are also almost perfect. Glossy finish with deep, clean checkering, nice grain, and only one light surface scratch at the bottom back of the right side.
So there you have it. Rick calls it a 95% gun because it has a scratch on the vent rib, a scratch on the right grip and there's powder rings on the front of the cylinder. Some folks might still think it's a 98% gun but nobody grades tougher than Rick - even when it's his gun.
No original box etc - so the price reflects that. Sometimes getting an old gun in this condition can be a curse - it's awesome to have it but maybe you're a little hesitant to shoot it and lose its pristine condition. This one has already been (lightly) shot though, so here's a chance to get an excellent condition - yet shootable heirloom 6" Python at a fair price.
**********Blue Star Hobbies is a group of friends in Central Illinois working together to ocassionally offer up items from our personal collections. From time to time we may list a rifle or shotgun but our focus is mostly S&W, Colt, & Ruger handguns built between 1946-1980. Our guns are better than our photography. We try to highlight flaws with red circles and everything else is usually glare or blanket fuzz. If you have a question about a photo please ask. We follow all Federal and State laws and GI policies. Please add $25 for standard shipping. Our FFL will ship to your FFL on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to minimize in-transit risks. **********
