Description: #4976 Colt S/A, 7-1/2”x38WCF, 161XXX(1895) bore about Fine to Ex.Fine (8 and should clean to 9), very good action with all the clicks on the hammer. Except for some scattered light pitting (see photos) it has smooth dark grayish patina with some FAINT traces of original blue, good markings, and very good standard hard rubber grips with about 30% wear to the left side checking …but do NOT look to be original grips to this ole “hawg-leg”, but most likely good repro’s. The 38WCF is not a really commonly found caliber in a long barrel Single Action and especially this late when the shorter lengths were becoming far more saleable. It might also be noted that the 38/40 caliber was rapidly gaining popularity in the 1890s due to being the same powder charge as the 44/40 but shooting a lighter projectile.
