Historic Colt Single Action Bisley Model. Made in 1910. .45 LC caliber with a 5½” barrel. Gun is in excellent original condition with the only finish wear on the grip straps and just a faint drag line on the cylinder. Overall around 90% plus of the original finish remains. Bright case colors on the frame. Grip are excellent.
This gun was shipped to William S Hoegee in Los Angeles in 1910. A letter accompanies this gun confirming the configuration. The name “Henry Price” is neatly stamped in the back strap. A letter accompanies this gun from Henry Price’s brother George Price. George Price in his letter tells where he and his brother grew up and that they settled in Goldfield, Nevada in the early 1900’s. Henry Price bought this as his carry gun. He had to kill two men with this gun during the tenure of his law enforcement career. One was a drunken gambler and the other was a claim jumper. The claim jumper was killed in self defense as the two Price brothers went to confront the man for digging for gold on someone else’s land. The claim jumper drew his gun and was shot dead with this Bisley by Henry Price.
Interestingly, there are two notches on the left hand grip. Typically, we do not think much of notches on a gun, but with this letter, my guess is these notches represent the two men killed with it. Very neat gun with a very cool story!
