*Sale Pending* - COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY ARTILLERY MODEL
Description: The Artillery Colt's are an interesting Historical Colt. These were bought by the US Government and almost all have very low serial numbered frames. They were sent in to Colt or Springfield and were reworked. The idea was that they wanted a shorter barrel than the standard 7-1/2 inch that they came with for artillery use. They reconditioned them and shortened the barrels. This was also during the time that the new fangled Colt double action in 38 Long wasn't getting the job done and a lot of single action army's were being brought back into service. This is one of those. 5-1/2 inch round barrel chambered in 45 LC caliber with a bright shiny bore that has some scattered spots of roughness. About 70% blue remains on the barrel and cylinder. Traces of case colors on the hammer. The frame has an early number in the 8k range with very nice markings and light case colors that remain in protected areas. Nearly all of these had a trigger guard with a much higher number as this one has. That number is 133k. The butt has a low number. This gun has all the proper markings. These were inspected under Ranaldo A. Carr. The RAC markings are found in several spots as they are supposed to be. Another sure fire marking that some people miss is the "C" stamped inside the frame right above your firing pin hole. This is the REAL DEAL! Also on the cartouche on the grips is RAC on the bottom and "1903" stamped on the right side grip. I am guessing that this was the 1903 batch which was towards the end of the Artillery build. Not only an interesting piece of history but a very nice Colt. Leroy Merz Antique Firearms specializes in antique and vintage Winchesters and other fine American firearms.
