1873 Colt Single Action Army Revolver .44 Rimfire Nickel Carved Steerhead Pearl *RARE* Wild West 1st Gen SAA Cowboy Pistol
Description: Extremely Rare .44 Rimfire Model 1873 Colt Single Action Army Revolver, Nickel Plated with Carved Steerhead Pearl Grips, .44 Henry RF, mfg. circa 1876/1877. This is a very rare Colt and a fantastic example of a true Wild West cowboy gun. Between 1875-1880 a special run of Single Actions were made chambered in .44 Rimfire to compliment buyers who were carrying Henry rifles and Model 1866 Winchesters still very much in use throughout the Southwestern US and Mexico. Subsequently an overwhelming majority of these revolvers went West and saw hard use on the frontier. All featured 7 1/2" barrels and were serial numbered within their own range separate from all other Single Actions. Of the nearly 360,000 first generation Single Action Army's made only 1,863 were chambered in .44 Rimfire making them a great rarity today. This example has the classic look of a cowboy gun with all the charm and character one would expect to find in a Colt that lived through the Wild West. Early on during the gun's working life the barrel was shortened to 4 3/4" with a small blade front sight neatly fitted. Aside from this common period alteration the gun remains remarkably original throughout. Matching serial number "1082" is stamped on the frame, triggerguard, backstrap, barrel, and cylinder with clear Colt address, "44" marked barrel, and early two-line patent dates. It retains 10% nickel finish (either factory or retailer applied) with the balance worn to smooth plum/chocolate patina overall. The pearl grips feature a relief carved steerhead on the left panel and show vibrant color with terrific handling wear particularly on the right side. There is some shrinkage along the backstrap with old chipping at the corners as pictured. Original hammer with unique Rimfire firing pin and slotted frame, trigger, cylinder pin, loading gate, ejector housing, and bullseye ejector with brass spring. A few screws are replacements. The action is just wonderful. It's smooth yet perfectly crisp and tight and functions flawlessly. The cylinder locks up like a vault with no play. Very good bore with strong sharp rifling front to back and typical moderate superfine pinprick pitting/frosting throughout. A really special Wild West Colt that truly speaks to you! *Please expect 2 weeks additional shipping time for secure Registered Mail* Jeremiah Johnson Trading sells antique arms manufactured prior to 1899 and muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions only.
