COLT CAVALRY MODEL 1873 U.S. CAVALRY REVOLVER W/KOPEC LETTER
Description: Colt SAA U.S. MODEL 1873 Cavalry "AINSWORTH " Inspected . According to the Kopec Letter, this 146 year old veteran was probably issued to the 8th Cavalry that saw action in the Indian Wars, throughou New Mexica, Indian Territory and Texas. t the All visible numbers are matching! All legends are crisp and readable, except where noted. Barrel address has the correct "broken" fonts in the "o" in the "Co", and the "A" in" Hartford". It is listed on (page 28) of the "Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers" by "Kopec & Fenn" . The book specifically lists, #8887, as being an "Ainsworth New York Militia Revolver". Has an Excellent action, indexes properly, locks up tight and has all 4 "clicks". Issued with a 7.5" barrel. (See Kopec Letter). Has a strongly rifled bore showing some fine pitting. Metal is all a Blue to Brown patina.does show remnants of case hardening on hammer and frame. . Cylinder has last 3 digits of serial number visible. No other visible markings on cylinder. The original grips are one piece.walnut and are varnished and show some edge loss and shrinkage. No cartouche remains on either side, but Ithe only number I can make out is the "7" in the grip channel. The barrel has the Number "8887" and a "P" inspector mark and a couple of dents where the "A" should be located. The trigger guard and back strap have the "A" inspector mark. Inside the bottom of the trigger guard bow shows some wear in a couple of spots (see pics.). Buyer pays $20.00 shipping to lower 48 states. I accept USPS Money Orders or Bank Cashier's Check.
