Colt Frontier Six Shooter .44-40 – FIRST GEN 7 1/2”,1937 98%, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Colt, 1937, .44-40, 39oz, 7 1/2" Barrel Serial Number: 355966 This is a COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER First Generation Colt Single Action Army (SAA) Revolver in .44-40 caliber. Also known as the Model of 1873 or the Colt Peacemaker, this Colt revolver was the mainstay of the Western Frontier. This Colt, sn355966 shipped in 1937, is in 98% professionally restored condition, showing some natural holster wear, but no rust, pits, or remnants of such on the desirable 7 ½” barrel. The bore has strong rifling from muzzle to cylinder with moderate frosting or light pitting depending on preferred verbiage. I would rate the bore a 6.5 out of 10 with strong rifling. It will spin a bullet just fine. Barrel and action have clear sharp lettering and stampings. The action is nicely bone and charcoal case colored showing remnants of pits on the left lower side of the action. The gun has all matching serial numbers except the hard rubber grips which are original Colt SAA grips from the proper era but have different 4 digits of a serial number. The .44-40 was only 18% of the total production of Colt SAA revolvers and it is sought after in this caliber. It is also a caliber that interchanged with the Winchester Model 1873, Model 1892, and later lever action rifles of all makes so that a cowboy could have one batch of cartridges for both rifle and handgun. The ammunition is readily available. Just imagine where this gun has been and the stories it could tell! This was made in the days when there were still cowboys and drifters gambling in the saloon chasing cattle across the West, likely wearing a rig with this Colt and a little Winchester carbine in their scabbard. The mechanics of the gun are excellent, with the timing of the action perfect and no play in the cylinder when cocked. We all have seen some poor restorations on Colt SAA guns, but this one was done very nicely. We are offering this fine Colt at less than the retail value so the new owner will have instant equity when buying this piece of history. Colt SAA revolvers nicely restored are few and far between and continue to increase in value as you enjoy their use and having them as tangible assets in your estate portfolio. The best thing about this nicely restored FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER is you can carry it, holster it, shoot it, pair it with a nice Winchester carbine and have fun shooting the gun. It doesn’t have to be a white glove safe queen! Don’t hesitate on this one…it won’t last long! Thanks for looking!
