Colt Single Action Army .44-40 – FACTORY 98%, 1907, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Colt, Year 1907, .44-40 (.44 WCF), 40.6oz Serial Number: 286644 This is a FACTORY ORIGINAL, UNTOUCHED, 98% CONDITION COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER First Generation Colt Single Action Army (SAA) Revolver in .44-40 caliber. Also known as the Model of 1873 or the Colt Peacemaker, this Colt revolver was the mainstay of the Western Frontier. This Colt, sn286644 shipped in 1907, is in superb factory original condition, untouched by the restorer’s hands, still retaining 99% strong factory case color, about 98% nice dark factory blue (showing some natural holster wear, but no rust, pits, or remnants of such) on the desirable 7 ½” barrel with a mirror shiny bore with excellent sharp rifling (BORE IS A 9.5 OUT OF 10), clear sharp lettering and stampings, PERFECT NITER BLUE original screws, hard rubber grips original with no wear to the checkering and serial numbered to the gun, all matching serial numbers…just a delightful, honest example of a fine Colt from the turn of the century. A factory letter documenting the gun is included in the photos and will accompany the gun upon sale. The .44-40 was only 18% of the total production of Colt SAA revolvers. It is also a caliber that interchanged with the Winchester Model 1873, Model 1892, and later lever action rifles so that a cowboy could have one batch of cartridges for both rifle and handgun. The ammunition is readily available. Just imagine where this gun has been and the stories it could tell! The gun was shipped to Duluth, Minnesota in the days when there were still cowboys and drifters gambling in the saloon and gunfighting in the streets. The mechanics of the gun are excellent, with the timing of the action perfect and no play in the cylinder when cocked. If case color remaining is the measure of the gun, as some people say, this is a very high condition gun indeed. I rate it at 98% overall with no excuses. We are offering this fine Colt under the retail value so the new owner will have instant equity when buying this piece of history. Colt SAA revolvers in this condition are few and far between and continue to increase in value as you enjoy having them as tangible assets in your estate portfolio. Don’t hesitate on this one…it won’t last long! Thanks for looking!
