Description: FACTORY ENGRAVED SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44-40, #130XXX, FACTORY LETTER, MADE 1890. If you ever wanted a factory engraved Single Action Colt, but didn't want to pay a fortune... this could be the one for you! The factory letter states this revolver in .44-40 was shipped with 7 1/2" barrel, Gold and Silver finish, grips "Pearl carved with Mexican Eagle motif and the name Felipe Rodriguez engraved on the stocks, " Factory Engraved "Yes" shipped to Simmons Hardware Company, St Louis, Missouri February 15, 1890, shipment of 1. Well that's the good news. The bad is that this Colt has seen some serious use in its time! The previous owner said his brother brought it back from Mexico years ago. The barrel is now 5", there is no gold or silver finish remaining and the original fancy pearl grips have been replaced with fake ivory grips. Overall the metal is an uncleaned worn gray with good, but also worn, engraving on the barrel, frame, top strap, cylinder, bottom of the trigger guard, recoil shields, losding gate, ejector housing and at the top of the back strap with traces of engraving on the back strap and butt. The action is good with four clicks to the hammer and the bore is surprisingly fine with good rifling throughout and onlyu normal darkness , but not heavily pitted or corroded. The barrel address on the barrel top is heavily worn, but partially visible as is the Colt Frontier Six Shooter stamping on the left side of the barrel. Good patent markings on the frame. Matching serial numbers. I'm sure this one played a role in the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920) and before. It would be fascinating to find out more about Felipe Rodriguez who was obviously the original owner of this once super fancy gold and silver engraved Colt. This Single Action Army was not only someone's pride and joy show piece, but also a working gun! Must have been magnificent when it left the factory! Now a wonderful relic of the old West and Mexico. .
