Description: HIGH CONDITION SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44-40 ETCHED PANEL 7 1/2" NICKEL FINISH WITH ONE PIECE IVORY GRIPS, SN 71XXX, WITH FACTORY LETTER, MADE 1881, letter states this revolver was shipped as a nickel .44-40 with 7 1/2" barrel (grips not listed) August 24, 1881 to Hartley & Graham in New York with 50 other revolvers, this one has a near perfect and distinct "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" etched panel, matching numbers on frame, trigger guard and grip strap (none on barrel or cylinder as this is serial numbered right at the transition when Colt stopped numbering the cylinder and barrel), retains most of the fairly bright nickel on the barrel with some wear/flaking at the extreme muzzle and a thin streak for 1 1/4 inch below the sight on the left side, right side almost all intact with the tiniest wear at the muzzle, ejector housing has fine bright nickel in the upper flute with the outside and bottom mostly flaked to brown with traces of nickel, back strap shows fine nickel with some light flaking, butt shows most of the nickel, front strap has good nickel on bottom third with the balance flaked to brown, fine blue on bottom of trigger guard with some flaking by serial number, cylinder about half flaked and half fine nickel, frame ahead of cylinder about 50% flaking of the nickel with the majority remaining on the balance and on the loading gate with edge wear, about the same edge wear on the hammer, exc screws and markings including the tiny "44 C.F." on left side of trigger guard bow, fine nickel on top strap, exc. action, minty bore, fine ivory has mellowed and yellowed with age, but not chipped and fit well with minimal shrinkage, really an outstanding etched barrel frontier Colt! .
